Saturday - 6/6/2020 - Wastin Away Again

Today brought yet another relaxing day in Key West.   No rain at all today!  Still pretty cloudy conditions that did not offer a good sunset :-(

The morning started with Renee doing some final studying for her midterm while Erik finished up on the blog for the past couple of days.   Erik then had to leave the boat while Renee was taking her proctored exam.   Renee says she felt good about the exam....her studies paid off apparently.   While she was taking the exam Erik rode into Stock Island which was not very exciting.   He did stop into yet another West Marine to check on what they had in stock in the way of chart plotters....no luck again.

After completing her exam Renee rode in towards town and met Erik.  We then went to our new favorite spot here, Cuban Coffee Queen for a bucci (strong Cuban espresso with cane sugar) and a cortadito (double Cuban espresso with cane sugar topped with steamed milk).   The trolley tour had been recommended to us by several people so we thought we would do that as a way to sit and relax while learning more about the island and its history.   The tour was 1.5 hours long and was very informative and interesting.   We learned some neat facts and history of the sites.   The trolley driver who also talked the whole time was from Dayton OH; we have found that there are a LOT of Ohioans here in Key West.

Shipwreck Museum across from where we got on the trolley.  Key West has a rich history of many shipwrecks. Can't tell from our picture, but the museum has a tall watch out tower on top
After the tour we met back up with Matt and Krysten and had a late lunch at Dante's.   This restaurant was also recommended to us and we were told they had a really nice pool that you could swim in if you ate there.  Unfortunately, the pool was closed and they were painting the pool deck.   It was a very large and nice pool with a waterfall and fountain feature....would have been refreshing.   The good and company were excellent though.

With full bellies we walked through town toward the 'Anchors Aweigh Club' where we attended their 5:30pm AA meeting.   The meeting was well attended and had many locals as well as several other visitors from out of town.  Rather than meeting in the usual meeting room of the clubhouse we met in the garden patio area outside.   It was a very nice setting for the meeting but it was pretty hot and sweaty sitting out in an area that did not have much wind.   Good topic....good recovery....good for our minds and hearts!   We always love to get a does of recovery into our trips.

Interesting amenities in the Anchors Aweigh Club bathrooms
On our walk back towards our bikes we stopped into Kermit's to try their 'famous' key lime pie on a stick dipped in dark chocolate and frozen.  It was a yummy treat.  We took a slightly different path back to the marina tonight that brought us by the row of all the charter boats, one of which was captained by one of the guys we met at the meeting earlier.

Sweet time!

Back at the marina we rested in the A/C for a bit before going up to start a load of laundry and shower up.   After writing today'g blog post we will be looking closer at what our options are for timing and path to start heading northward towards Miami.   The weather/wind/wave forecasts are all indicating that Monday and Tuesday might be our best, most comfortable window of opportunity for this.   That means not much more time here in Key West :-(   What to do tomorrow??  Snorkeling is definitely one thing on our agenda.
